What is Voter ID?

In India the election commission department issues an identity card called the voter ID. This card is be used for casting votes in selecting the leader for Indian government. The voter ID is used as an identity card for age proof and address proof. It is used for getting ration card, passport and other such government related documents. Application process of voter ID in Bihar

Every citizen of India above the age 18 must have a voter ID card. In early days people need to go the government electoral office and apply for the voter ID card manually. In recent times NIC have provided online application for easy way to get this ID card.

Voter ID form explanation

In the online portal, register yourself and download the application form. Form 6 is used to apply for voter ID. In the form you need to fill up your

·         Full name

·         Complete Address

·         Date of birth

·         Birth place details

·         Father / mother / husband details need to be filled

·         Present address

After filling the details, add the necessary supporting documents by uploading it. The vital documents can address proof, any valid identity proof and photograph. Documents such as educational certificate (SSLC certificate), ration card, electricity bill etc., can be used as identity proof and address proof. After this save and submit the form. Take a printout, attest it and scan it, upload again.

Online status checking of the application

Once the online registration of the form is finished, the details you entered needs to be verified by the officials. After the verification process is done, you will be notified with the issue date. If any details filled by you are wrong you need to repeat the process again. All these various status are notified in the online portal. You need to check the application status regularly. The whole process takes a long time to complete, approximately two months.

Correction of Voter ID

After you receive the card, if there are any mistakes say like your name spelling is incorrect, or you need to change address etc. can be done online. Forms are available for these corrections. Need to fill the form and upload it to add your corrections. Form 7, form 8 and form 8A are available in the portal for corrections.

Photo change process

Similar process needs to be followed to change photo in your voter ID card. Same steps and time is taken to change the photo in your voter ID

Voter list available sources

Sources for voter list are available in chief electoral office. Also in the official portal of the electoral department we can find the voters list. During election the officers must have your name in their list, sometimes you might have the voter ID card, but name might not be there in the list. The main source of the list is taken during census calculation of the state population.
