Valium and its effects



Valium is the marketing name of diazepam. It belongs to the family of benzodiazepine. This class of drug is known for producing the calming effect in the human body. The valium drug is used to treat the following
·         Anxiety
·         Muscle syndrome
·         Alcohol withdrawal disease
·         Sleeping problems
·         Restless legs syndrome
·         Benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome
The mode of intake of valium can be via mouth, insertion in the rectum, injection into muscle or into vein. When injected the effects of the drug can be observed immediately whereas when taken it orally the effects can be seen after a minimum of 40 minutes. Sometimes seizures are treated by giving them valium.

Cautions of valium
When allergic to valium one must not use this drug. Also valium must not be consumed if one has myasthenia gravis, breathing issues, sleep apnea. Medical history must be discussed with the doctor before taking the drug. Special notes must be taken if one has suicidal tendency, glaucoma, breathing issues, seizures, any drug addiction, alcohol addiction, depression and mental illness. Important point is when one is pregnant and getting treated for anxiety, muscle spasms or alcohol withdrawals with valium, the unborn gets dependent on the drug. This can be hazardous as the child can have life threatening problem in the process of withdrawal of the drug.

Side effects of the drug valium
Every drug has its own side effects, they are:

·         Weakness in the muscles

When a person, who is consuming valium and has any one of the symptoms mentioned above need clinical care immediately. When this drug is taken along with sleeping pills, narcotic pain killers, depression medicines it can be fatal with life threatening symptoms.

How long does the valium effect stay in the human system?
This drug valium can really stay longer in the human system. The drug can be detected in one’s body for up to 23 days from the last dose. The duration mainly depends on the person’s age, health, weight and even their body metabolic rate. In normal use of valium it can be detected in 5- 7 days, where as in chronic use of the valium, it can have a longer period for detection. It takes 100 hours for the terminal elimination half-life of the drug from the body.
