Motor used in furnace blower or heater blower

In colder regions all the buildings has incorporated with the air heating systems. In the air heating system there must be a blower motor. In recent times the heaters, ventilators, or any air conditioners use variety of technologies. The product design is based on power consumption, performance, durability, cost etc., To achieve all these motor inside the product need to satisfy the design criteria .This motor is meant for circulating the air in and out to all the spaces of the house. Based on the need of the air speed, noise production, constant air blower speed requirement mainly there are two kinds of motors used in the furnace blower or in heater blowers. The two kinds are:
·         PSC- permanent split capacitor motor
·         ECM- electronically commutated motor

Permanent split capacitor motor
this motor is the highest installed and working motor from many years in the industry. this is one of the standard motor used in the furnaces and air handlers in homes. This basically has a thermostat that signals to switch ON the motor when needed. The permanent split capacitor motor has a fixed speed; hence it is only used as basic one. Also its low cost makes it worth buying. The permanent split capacitor motor are widely used in electronic and electrical equipment where the starting torque is not very high and also the electrical efficiency needs to be moderate. This is the basic requirement in the blowers of the furnace, heater blowers, air conditioners blowers, small pumps etc. This motor is like AC induction motor in which the peak efficiency of the motor is at a point of 5 to 10 percent speed.
Over the past few the permanent split capacitor motors are being used widely in the conditioning equipment. This motor is also called as capacitor run motor and a single phase induction motor. This motor works by using the alternating current. They have 2 main components in their build that is a stator and the rotor. To start the windings it makes use of the capacitor at a high voltage rating. The capacitance from the capacitor is sufficient enough to counter the electromotive force; this prevents breakage of connection while running. It inhibits good running and starting torque. The power factor is induced by the permanent capacitor in the motor during the operation of the blowers. The capacitor working in the motor is of AC oil filled type.
The permanent split capacitor motor does not have the feature of varying its speed; hence it has lot of disadvantages making it less useful. The disadvantages are:
·         It makes the blowers noisy
·         The motor is draftiness
·         Makes the air handler less efficient.
·         Efficiencies vary from 20 percent to 65 percent.
Summary
The PSC motors are less expensive. Hence this makes it easy to replace the motor in case of failure cases. Also the motors are easy available from the manufacturer hence no need to go to duplicate or other motor options.
